Ganesh Chaturthi Puja Vidhi in Hindi (How to do Ganesh Puja at Home)

Step 1. Avahana and Pratishthapan


Initially one must chant the avahana mantra before starting the pooja. While Chanting the Avahana Mantra the two palms must be joined and then chant the mantra.


After the Avahana, lord Ganesha statue is to be installed. While installing the statue the mantra must be chanted.

Step 2. Asana Samarpan

After placing the Ganesha statue at the indicated place asanam samarpana pooja must be done. Asana means allotting some place to Ganesha to sit. Perform Asana Smarpana Pooja with Namarskara. Read the Asana Samarpana mantra while doing this.

Step 3. Padya Samarpan

After seating lord Ganesha after the lord water to wash the legs. Chant the padya smamrpan mantra while doing this.

Step 4. Arghya Samarpan

We have to offer the scented water to lord Ganesha after padya samarpanam. Chant the mantra for arghya samarpanam.

Step 5. Achamana

Offer water to lord Ganesha after the arghya Samarpanam. Chant the mantra to achamana.

Step 6. Snana Mantra


We have to offer snana to Lord Ganesha by chanting the mantra.

Panchamrita Snanam

Panchamrita Snanam includes honey, milk, Ghee, curd, and sugar. We have to chant the sloka while offering the panchamritha snanam.

Payah/Dugdha Snanam

Now give a bath with Paya (milk) to Shri Ganesha.

Dadhi Snanam

Now give a bath with Dadhi (curd) to Shri Ganesha.

Ghrita Snanam

Now give a bath with Ghrita (ghee) to Shri Ganesha.

Madhu Snanam

Now give a bath with Madhu (honey) to Shri Ganesha.

Sharkara Snanam

Now give a bath with Sugar to Shri Ganesha.

Suvasita Snanam

Now give a bath with Suvasita Snanam  (scented oil) to Shri Ganesha.

Shuddhodaka Snanam

Now give a bath with Shuddhodaka Snanam   (pure water) to Shri Ganesha.

Step 7. Vastra Samarpan and Uttariya Samarpan

Vastra Samarpan

Vastra made with pattu or any other material should be offered to lord Ganesha

Uttariya Samarpan

Uttareyam made with cotton to be offered to lord Ganesha after vastra Samarpanam

Step 8. Yajnopavita

Yajnopavita should be offered to Lord Ganesha. Chant the Mantra while performaing yagnopavita.

Step 9. Gandha

Now, offer gandha to lord Ganesha. Chant the mantra while offering the Gandha.

Step10. Akshata

Akshatha must be offered to god. Akshatha means unbroken rice mixed with turmeric.

Step11. Pushpa Mala, Shami Patra, Durvankura, Sindoor

Now offer Durva with three or five leaflets to Lord Ganesha.

Step12. Dhoop

Dhoop (Harathi) must be offered to lord Ganesh

Step 13. Deep Samarpan

Place the Deepam near lord Ganesha.

Step 14. Naivedya and Karodvartan

Naivedya Nivedan

Offer the Prasadam, such as kudumulu, undrallu, etc to swami.

Chandan Karodvartan

Offer sandle mixed with water to lord Ganesha

Step15. Tambula, Narikela and Dakshina Samarpan

Offer Beetle leaf tambula to god.

Offer Coconut to lord Ganesha

Dakshina Samarpan

Now, we have to offer some dhakshna (money / gift) to god.

Step 16. Neerajan and Visarjan
